Massage therapy is the application of pressure on the soft tissues of the body. These include muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and the lymphatic vessels. The soft tissues of the body support the skeletal system and often if one is imbalanced the other is as well. The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) defines massage therapy as "a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client".
